Hutch Rec will start recruiting lifeguards in the spring.

Lifeguard Certification: If you apply to be a Salt City Splash Lifeguard, you will receive your certification for FREE! Not only is that a $225 value, but it is good for two years!

The American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification is a blended learning course required for individuals wanting to become a lifeguard. Throughout the course, participants will learn and be evaluated on knowledge and skills related to lifeguarding, water rescues, CPR and AED, and First Aid. This blended learning class will include online learning, as well as in-person classes (included in the dates/times listed). The Lifeguard Certification is valid for two years. More details will be sent via e-mail to all participants prior to the first class. Participants must be at least 15 years old and be able to complete the following skills at the first class:

    • Jump in the water and totally submerge and resurface, then swim 150 yards using the front crawl or breaststroke (or a combination). Tread water for two minutes using only the legs. Swim 50 yards using front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both.
    • Complete a timed event within 1:40 – swim 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet and retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back, holding the object. Exit the water without using the steps or ladder.
