Dive into the excitement with Hutch Rec’s Aquatics programs & activities at the Salt City Splash Aquatic Center. Our outdoor aquatic hub offers a spectrum of engaging activities and events suitable for all ages. Hutch Rec programs both youth and adult swim lessons, water fitness classes, and dynamic community events throughout the season.   • Fitness Classes

    Our water fitness classes include a great workout using the benefits of buoyancy and resistance. Classes vary each summer and have included water aerobics, land and water boot camp, Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP), SUP yoga, aqua running, and more.

  • Junior Lifeguarding Program
    Ages: 11-14 yrs old

    Learn what it takes to become a lifeguard! Participants in this class will be introduced to lifeguarding skills and learn how to respond to emergencies in both water and on land, as well as shadow current Salt City Splash lifeguards. This program is a great resource for tweens and/or teens interested in becoming a certified lifeguard.

Community Swim Lessons

Join us at Salt City Splash for our Community Swim Lessons! Our experienced instructors are passionate about teaching children of all ages and skill levels how to swim in a safe and supportive environment. Children will improve their swimming technique and build their confidence in the water.

  • Baby & Me
    Ages: 6 months - 2 yrs

    Designed for children 6 months to 2 years of age, this program builds swimming readiness by emphasizing fun in the water. Adults and children participate in skills that help babies become comfortable and safe in the water. Skills include: Water entry, bubble blowing, front kicking, back kicking, back floating and more. Non toilet-trained participants must wear a swim diaper during lessons. Register under the CHILD’s name. *Children must be 6 months of age by first day of class.

  • Toddler & Me
    Ages: 1.5 - 3 yrs

    Designed for children 1.5-3 years of age, this program builds on swimming readiness by emphasizing fun in the water. Adults and children participate in skills that help toddlers become more comfortable and safe in the water. Skills include: Water entry, bubble blowing, front kicking, back kicking, back floating, underwater exploration, and more. Non toilet trained participants must wear a swim diaper during lessons. Register under the CHILD’s name. *Children must be 1.5 yrs old by first day of class.

  • Preschool
    Ages: 3-5 yrs

    Designed for preschoolers ages 3-5 years old, participants will focus on learning independence in blowing bubbles, retrieving objects underwater with their eyes open, arm and leg movement for swimming, floating, jumping in water over their heads, and water safety. *Children must be 3 yrs by first day of class.

  • Level 1 (Introduction to Water Skills)
    Age: Must by 5 yrs

    This class is designed for the school-aged swimmer who has had little to no previous swim lessons. Participants will learn how to fully submerge face in water and retrieve an object underwater with eyes open, learn to independently float, glide, and use arm and leg motions that resemble swim strokes.

  • Level 2 (Fundamental Water Skills)
    Age: Must be 5 yrs

    This class is designed for swimmers who are comfortable and can fully submerge in the water, black float independently for 5 seconds or more, and can swim short distances on their own. Participants will learn the front crawl, backstroke, and be introduced to rhythmic breathing and the breaststroke.

  • Level 3 (Intermediate Stroke Development)
    Age: Must be 6 yrs

    This class is designed for swimmers who are capable of swimming at least 10 yards on both front and back, and are comfortable in deep water but may not have great technique with different swimming strokes. Participants will develop more advanced skills in strokes and swimming, including rotary breathing, diving, breast stroke, dolphin kick, and will be introduced to the sidestroke and butterfly.

Advanced Youth Swim Lessons

  • Level 4 (Stroke Improvement & Water Safety)
    Ages: Must be 8 yrs

    This class is designed for advanced swimmers who desire stroke-specific and swimming skill refinement. Swimmers must be capable of swimming multiple lengths of the pool and have basic knowledge of multiple swimming strokes, including front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Participants will refine all strokes, build endurance, and cover more advanced water safety skills.

  • Level 5 ( Fitness Swimming)
    Age: Must be 8 yrs

    This class is designed for advanced swimmers who want to further develop confidence, competency, and endurance in all strokes that are needed for swim team, lifeguarding class, and to enjoy swimming as a part of lifelong wellness.

  • Salt City Splash Aquatic Center

    Salt City Splash Aquatic Center is Hutchinson’s exclusive water park and is located in Carey Park. The Splash opens the Saturday before Memorial Day and is open daily (weather-permitting) through mid-August from 12:30-6:30 p.m.

  • Splash Pads

    The City of Hutchinson operates three splash pads, which open in mid-May and close in late September. Splash pads are open daily from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. and have nearby restroom facilities.

    Splash pads are not swimming pools and are ideal for families with young children 7 and younger. They are free to the public.

    Splash pad locations include:

    • Rice Park Splash Pad: 2112 N. Hendricks
