Recreation Coordinator

The Hutchinson Recreation Commission is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Recreation Coordinator. Under the direction of the Superintendent of Recreation & Sports this position’s primary responsibility is for the development and implementation of a diversified offering of youth/adult enrichment, art, culture, camp, and adaptive programs and events.

Essential job functions include: research and development of new programs and events, expanding our offerings in all program areas; recruitment, training, scheduling and supervision of paid staff and volunteers; establish clear channels of communication that is courteous and effective with participants, parents, and partner agencies; assist with service level and cost recovery analysis of all assigned programs and events.

Qualifications for this position include a Bachelor’s Degree and three years of increasingly responsible experience in the fields of/closely related to Parks & Recreation or Therapeutic Recreation. Ability to organize and execute work independently, at times under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines.

This position reports directly to the Superintendent of Recreation & Sports. Position is open until filled. Starting salary range is $41,686 to $45,000 annually with benefits, including health insurance, vacation/sick leave and retirement plan.

Director of Neighborhood Planning

The Hutchinson Recreation Commission is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Director of Neighborhood Planning. This position is to work collaboratively with residents and community partners, including the City of Hutchinson and the Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce, in the development and implementation of innovate neighborhood development strategies and programs, with the overarching goal of ensuring that Hutchinson is an attractive place to live, work, play and raise a family with vibrant, active and safe neighborhoods. This position will also assist the Recreation Commission on efforts to create unique public spaces, programs, and policies that promote active living and strengthen community spirit.

Essential job functions include: engaging residents through neighborhood meetings, door-to-door visits, and written communications; advocating for neighborhood needs in policy, systems, and environment change and effectively communicating those needs to community partners; conducting research in project areas and compiling, computing, and presenting data according to specified standards and formats; researching, writing and preparing grant applications; coordinating and implementing approved master plans.

Qualifications for this position include: a bachelor’s or master’s degree and two or more years of increasingly responsible experience in fields of and/or closely related to neighborhood/community development, city planning, public policy/administration, or parks and recreation. Experience working directly with residents and community partners in developing strategies to improve/revitalize neighborhoods is strongly preferred, as well as experience in community engagement, public meetings, and facilitation.

Starting salary range is $39,000 – $45,000 annually with benefits, including health insurance, vacation/sick leave, and retirement plan. The Director of Neighborhood Planning reports directly to the Executive Director. Position is open until filled.

Salt City Splash is hiring new lifeguards to join the team in the final weeks of 2017. These new employees will also have a jump start to the summer of 2018!     • Brief Job Description: Under the supervision of the Site Supervisor, the scorekeeper will assist the Hutch Rec staff in keeping score for league or tournament play. A basic understanding of the sport is necessary for the position. It is the responsibility of the score keeper to post the score on the score board and keep an accurate score book or score sheet. Training will be provided for scorekeepers that need assistance with keeping book. Their position will include other duties as assigned by site supervisor.
